Memorial
Breaks

towards a simple Vegan Holiday site,
to be a living-Memorial for our fallen

What is Memorial Breaks about?

In 1995 a young mother in Coventry was run over, in spite of a large Police presence, by the man delivering a load of terrified young calves to Coventry airport.  From there they would be flown abroad to end their days in the cramped, lonely, miserable, darkness of veal-crates.

The woman, one of a small group opposing that vile cruelty, died shortly after.

Her name was Jill Phipps, and she left a young son whom she loved dearly.

Both her death and her send-off from no less a place than Coventry Cathedral were news all around the World.

Sadly, apart from the animal-rights world, her name is already being forgotten, fading into History...

Memorial Breaks is a not-for-profit project to create a simple, planet-friendly, people-friendly woodland holiday site and then use both the site and the proceeds to encourage and promote Veganism and animal rights.

IT WILL BE A PERMANENT LIVING-MEMORIAL,  not just for JILL, but also for...

Mike Hill, an 18 year old, killed on Feb 9th 1991 opposing the Cheshire Beagle hunt.

Tom Worby, just 15 years old and on his very first protest, killed by the Cambridgeshire Fox Hunt. 1993

Barry Horne, a committed activist died in 2001 from the effects of multiple prolonged hunger-strikes against animal testing.

Regan Russell, a lovely woman, run over by a transporter full of pigs in 2020 outside the slaughterhouse she was protesting against in Canada..

No action has ever been taken against those responsible for their deaths...

The dream is for 5 or 6 acres of neglected Hazel wood which we will coppice and bring back to life.

Because it's easiest we will start with areas for Camping, and Camper vans.

At first all income will be used to improve the site.

When we can, we'll add a few Yurts (colourful, nomadic tents), because they are easy to make, but ours will be permanently-sited, well-insulated, and comfortable.

When finances permit we'll add a Caravan or two, clean and well equipped.

Then Glamping - enough tents for a family to sleep in, a well-equipped kitchen tent, and a lounge area; all inside a poly tunnel, so even the worst weather won't spoil the  break.

The wish list...  places for visitors to meet and chat, play games, practice yoga, meditate, dance...

Areas for stalls so visitors can sell their wares.           Ball-pits and messy spaces for kids.

Classes and workshops in Vegan cookery, and anything else that is Life-positive. Or just fun.

And, of course, a CAFE.

All such places will be simple, but cosy, and not a house-brick in sight, except maybe in fire-pits.

Imagine, a place of our own - no smell of animals being cooked, EVER.

When the site reaches its optimum state –  some nice things to stay in, and things to do, but NOT overcrowded, we will turn the site into a TRUST so all income from then on, forever, will be used to support other Vegan and animal causes...

It will be a great Memorial to Jill, Mike, Tom, Barry, and Regan

They loved animals, they loved Vegans,  they loved Life.

Surely they deserve to be remembered in a way they would like?

We hope Vegans, young and old, will take this idea to your hearts, and help it become a reality...
